The Annie A-line skirt is a simple skirt to sew and very versatile. If you want to add a few details for more of a wow factor, you can add some pockets.
I’ve created a template of some patch pockets for you but you can use these steps for any patch pocket. I’ve added mine to a stretch denim and used a floral poplin lining in this version to show you how easy it is to do.
You will need to add your pockets after you’ve sewn the side seams together.
Lets get started.
Cut out 2 pockets using the template in your main fabric and 2 pockets in your lining fabric. The lining will show when you fold it down so make sure you are happy with your fabric choice.
With right sides together stitch pockets together leaving an opening at lower edge to turn.
Trim seams and corners diagonally.
Turn pocket and get into the corners with a chopstick. Press well.
Slipstitch opening edges together.
This is a guideline for you to line up your pockets. Mark the front of your skirt with tailors chalk.
- Mark a point 9cm down and 17cm in from side seam.
- Mark another point 23cm down and 7cm in from side seam.
- Mark another 30cm down and 8cm in from the side seam.
You may want to move them further up or down, its all up to you!
Sewing the pocket onto the skirt.
On outside, pin pocket to front matching markings.
Stitch close to side and lower edges below fold line. Turn upper edge of pocket down along fold line, forming flap. Sew a button on each flap where marked securing it to the pocket.
Voila! A very easy way to add some fun to your skirt.
