My latest project was the most fun I’ve had sewing for a while. My son who is turning nine, decided he wanted a pair of gold party pants to go with his reflective sunnies he’d bought recently. Don’t ask me why or where he got this idea from but I thought it was a pretty cute idea so I took him to Spotlight where he chose the gold pvc fabric and the pattern, Burdastyle 9406. He was very specific with how they should look as he’d found a picture on the web of a teenager wearing gold jeans.
Sewing PVC is like sewing leather, a little challenging. I have sewn with leather before when I made up my Pin Pegs mini skirt in leather so I had a few tricks up my sleeve. The best trick is not to pin! This fabric shows up every little mark and mistake you might make. Use paper clips and double sided tape instead. I also used paper weights to hold the pattern in place before cutting so I wouldn’t make any marks. Topstitching the back yoke pieces was definitely a challenge as you would normally press the pieces sharp before sewing. I used double sided tape to hold it in place but I had to sew with caution! The fly zipper was also a bit of a challenge but at least with PVC there is no seam finishing required, you just trim and your done.
The pattern instructions are easy to follow and are a really nice little fit. The waistband has elastic inserted with buttons to hold the elastic in place which is great as you can make the waist bigger as they grow. I will definitely use this pattern again. Nice choice Noah!
While I was sewing I could see the jeans taking on a life of their own and I was really excited about how they were going to turn out. Every day after school Noah would ask “are my gold pants finished?”. I finished them within a couple of days so they would be ready for his birthday party. He absolutely rocked them and I’m really proud of him for not caring what any of his friends think, he has his own style. My little rockstar! #goldpantsdontcare

I bought this pattern to sew yoo some jeans for my 7 yr old son. Came online to see if there were pics from anyone else who had sewn these. What a nice surprise to have your review pop up first. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this post. You’re son truly is a Rock Star and I applaud him for being true to himself and his own esthetic style…rock on Noah! Great job Mom! Take Care…

Thankyou! Noah is pretty happy to hear that people are loving his style. I hope your son enjoys his pants just as much!
