Summer is almost upon us in Aussie so a good time to start sewing some quick fun little outfits – like a playsuit!
Spotlight had a sale on recently (they always have a sale on) where I picked up this cute flamingo printed rayon for a steal. I already had a playsuit in mind so thought this fabric would be perfect to give a fun 70’s type feel to it. Can’t be too serious with a playsuit!
There weren’t too many playsuit patterns available that really took my eye but this Simplicity pattern number 1355 ticked all the boxes. It has a cross over back which is really flattering, long or short, pant or skirt and v-neck or scoop options. Very versatile.
The pattern is easy to sew but there are a couple of little things that take a bit of extra time. There are thread loops on the side seams which are easy enough but a beginner might struggle. The pattern doesn’t actually tell you how to sew thread loops either but luckily enough I have a couture sewing book which covers everything including thread loops. There are a lot of online tutorials out there also. Here is good one from Colette.
I will definitely make this pattern again, maybe in the skirt/scoop neck version.

I’ve had this pattern in my stash for a while… you’ve inspired me to pull it out. I have some cute bicycle print cotton that will make a perfect fun romper.
Great job!

Hi Ginger,
I would love to see it in the bicycle print. That would be so cute.
Thanks!
