I am delighted to announce the release of the Gypsy Swing Top PDF sewing pattern. The inspiration for creating the Gypsy Swing Top came from observing so many ruffles around this season. There are literally ruffles everywhere and they are easier to sew than you might think. I wanted to create a simple sewing project that an advanced beginner could sew and one that also gives you a fashionable look.
Refashioned Skirt and Satin Blouse
Recently I was given a beautiful but oversized 80’s wool/cashmere two toned coat by a lady I instruct at my gym. She knows I am a sewer and thought that if I didn’t fancy the coat that I could use the fabric and transform it and refashion it into something else. A great challenge, how could I say no to such a lovely gesture? Continue reading →
My #haulternative – Fashion Revolution week
Fashion Revolution Week is a campaign in April run by the Fashion Revolution movement which falls on the anniversary of the Rana Plaza factory collapse in Bangladesh, which killed 1138 people and injured many more on 24th April 2013. During this week, brands are asked the question #whomademyclothes and are encouraged to respond with the hashtag #imadeyourclothes to demonstrate greater transparency, sustainability and ethics in their supply chain. Venus Kimono Oversize – a plus size pattern option
The Venus Kimono – Oversize pattern has been designed to fall generously over the body to create a relaxed bohemian look. I have been asked a lot recently by sewers if the oversize version would also be a suitable plus size pattern. Yes! It is the perfect pattern for plus size sewers and is ideal for the size 18 -24 size range (Australian sizes).
Daphne Day Dress PDF pattern release!
After a long time in the pipeline, I am so excited to finally release the Daphne Day Dress PDF pattern. I started working on it last year but unfortunately my darling partner decided to scare us all silly with a health scare and was in hospital for a few weeks. Over this time, sewing and designing patterns was the last thing on my mind. It took a few months to get family life back to normal and things back on schedule, so releasing this pattern is kind of cathartic if that makes sense. I also named it after my late Nanny, Daphne. Like most women of her generation, she used to love wearing nail polish and makeup at all times and dressing her finest when out and about. This dress reminds me of her and the women of her time. Cold Shoulders Serpent Dress
Summer’s here and it’s time to bring the shoulders out. Cold shoulder dresses are great, I’ve been eyeing them off in stores and on Pinterest for a while now. They bare just the right amount of skin to show off your shoulders while keeping them a little covered at the same time which is perfect for summer evenings when it cools off a bit. This is the final project for my Sewfestive3 DIY sewing challenge. It’s a super easy sequinned pencil skirt which you can whip up in under an hour. I’ve used sequinned fabric but you could use any fabric with a stretch. This skirt is so much fun and looks so glam! Perfect for New Years Eve celebrations. Continue reading →
#sewfestive3 week 2 : Bolero Wrap
Welcome to the second week of my#sewfestive3 challenge.
This weeks DIY project is a glamorous DIY Bolero Wrap. This super easy wrap will look striking in gold, silver or any type of fabric with a sparkle and is perfect for those xmas functions where you feel you need something to cover up your shoulders. I happen to have a little left over purple chiffon fabric with sequins which will be perfect! You could make it up in a chiffon or a lace or any lightweight fabric that has a nice soft drape. Sequinned fabric would look amazing too. Depending on what fabric you choose, you will finish the bolero wrap edges either with a sewn rolled hem or finish it with a satin binding. Continue reading →
