Description

The Daphne Day Dress is a beautiful dress and has a real wow factor. The back detail and gathered bodice really make this dress stand out in a crowd. You will need to wear a strapless bra or a bra with a strap that sits wider on the back to allow for the cutout back detail. The length is what you could call “flirty” sitting just at the mid thigh. It will look gorgeous made up in a floral, polka dot or any print but equally as nice in a solid colour. Ideally it should be made up in a  light to medium weight cotton with a small amount of elastane such as Sateen.  Fabric without elastane will also work however you may need to add a bit more ease to the pattern. Chambray or a lightweight denim would look very modern. This is a dress you will wear to a picnic or a lovely afternoon tea with the girls.

The Daphne Day Dress pattern comes in sizes 6-18 (Australian standards).

I was disappointed by how much I needed to alter the base pattern to get it to fit nicely. I had to go through four muslins before being satisfied enough to use the final fabric. For context, I am 5′ 1″ with my BWH measurements at 35″, 29.5″, and 38″. My best bet seemed to be size 12 and I would just have to resize the bust. However, what ended up happening was that I needed to alter the bust, narrow the back midriff, shorten the front and back bodices, and change the armhole shapes. I suspect this was all due to my height and frame (narrow back).

For the future, I think the instructions could benefit from having some suggestions for how to alter the bodice for bust adjustment and lengthening/shortening. It’s style is different from the usual bodices you see, so I couldn’t just google how to do full bust adjustment and call it a day.

Still, I really do like the final design. I really like the back cutout detail, I like the box pleated skirt, all that jazz. I’m happy with the final results, but the getting there was tough.

I adore this dress! It’s perfect- a little cute, a little sexy, a little edgy, and not too much of anything. It’s one of my favorite patterns.
