Learn to sew a simple and stylish Shift Dress.

Using the Style Arc “June Sheath Dress” Pattern you will learn how to make a simple “A” line shape dress with in seam pockets.

In this 3 week course, you will learn how to find your correct pattern size, amend pattern to fit if required, read sewing instructions,  sew and finish seams, sew in seam pockets, apply interfacing and sew facings, hem plus much more.

It’s a great course if you have taken some Beginner classes or the Learn to Sew Clothes classes and are keen to learn more about making your own clothes. If you are a beginner sewer looking to improve on your skills, this is the course for you!

What to bring

  • 2 x meters of 150 cm wide fabric.

Suggested Fabric for beginners:  Medium weight Cotton or Linen

For Intermediates: Rayon, Crepe, Cotton or Linen.

Ensure your fabric is washed and pressed prior to class.

  • Thread to match.
  • Buttons 1 X 10 mm (16 L)


  • A Printed copy of the June Sheath Dress by Style Arc Patterns (Valued at $20)
  • Sewing machines and basic supplies like pins, scissors measuring tapes.
  • Expert Gudiance
  • Tea, coffee, biscuits.

Lessons are run in our cool little studio in Elsternwick, right near the train station. Car parking is at the train station.

Skill level required

This course is for confident beginner sewers who are looking to advance their skills.

You will need to have sewn a few simple projects before like a tote bag or zippered pouch and feel comfortable with cutting fabric, winding a bobbin and threading a sewing machine.
