Learn the essential techniques to customise your patterns for a perfect fit in this hands-on, 3-week course.

We sew because nothing in the shops fit, but patterns aren’t one size fits all either!

Learn basic fitting skills for correcting fitting issues to create perfectly fitting garments with our new pattern fitting courses.

This is the first in our 3 fitting courses and will help guide you through essential pattern alterations for various clothing styles, ensuring a great fit every time. By breaking down the process into simple, manageable steps, you’ll gain the confidence to tackle common fit issues with ease.

Throughout the course, you’ll learn to master basic alterations, including adjusting necklines bodices and shirt sleeves. We will teach you how to make these alterations using the slash and spread method, along with other essential techniques.

With step-by-step instruction and resources, you’ll be ready to apply these techniques to a wide range of projects, opening the door to endless sewing possibilities.

Our second Fitting Course we will cover Skirt and Pants fit and in our final course we will teach you how to do a Full Bust or Small Bust adjustment.

After completing these courses, you will be a master at fitting your me made clothes!

Description

What you will learn:

  • Measure yourself to choose the correct pattern size
  • Sew a muslin for fit
  • Identify fit issues
  • Correct a gaping neckline
  • Correct dart placement
  • Identify and correct shoulder issues, like narrow, wide, square and sloping
  • Correct broad and narrow back fit issues
  • Alter sleeves, longer, shorter, wider or narrower

What to bring:

  • A roll of craft paper for tracing patterns. Paper that doesn’t tear easlily is best. Please don’t bring tissue paper as it tears to easily.
  • Rulers, pencils, scissors, markers, tapes and erasers are provided but please feel free to bring your own.
  • A garment you have sewn that has some fit issues (if you wish but not necessary)

Provided:

  • Block Patterns printed on Copy paper
  • Rulers, pencils, scissors, markers, tapes and erasers
  • Sewing machines
  • Tea and Coffee and biscuits
  • Scissors, pins, irons and any necessary equipment for sewing.
