Summer’s here and it’s time to bring the shoulders out. Cold shoulder dresses are great, I’ve been eyeing them off in stores and on Pinterest for a while now. They bare just the right amount of skin to show off your shoulders while keeping them a little covered at the same time which is perfect for summer evenings when it cools off a bit.
I was going to draft up a pattern from a tee shirt I but I found a Kwik Sew top pattern on sale at Spotlight. It’s Kwik Sew K3880 which I lengthened into a dress and added 2 side slits. To lengthen I continued from the side seams at the hip and added about 2 cm in width which I blended to the hem.
The fabric is a cotton jersey in a really cool coloured snake print which I picked up last year from The Fabric Store in Fitzroy, Melbourne. I still have enough fabric to make another top or mini dress.
The instructions were easy to follow and it was a really quick make. For the slits, I sewed the seams down to the point I wanted the splits to start and back stitched. I then turned over a narrow hem and top stitched the slits. Super easy to do yourself.
I love this dress, it’s so casual and easy to throw on. I’ve been wearing it so much as you can see on my Instagram!. I took it away on our beach holiday over New Year and wore it on New Years Eve and I wore it again today to the cafe for lunch with my boys. It’s so versatile. I highly recommend this pattern wether you just sew up the top or create your own dress! It would look great it a mini too. I’m definitely going to use this pattern again.
Earings by Samatha Wills were a Xmas present from my partner. He has great taste.
